Here at The Tech Buyer's Guru, we love testing Smart Home gear, but we realize there's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to adopting smart home tech. Installing Smart Home products is never quite as easy as just screwing in a lightbulb - even when it's a lightbulb! So we're putting together a series of explanatory videos to show you not only how a product works, but how you can install it in your own home.

We personally think that top five most important Smart devices you can add to a home are smart lighting, a smart camera, a smart thermostat, a smart alarm, and a smart lock. Ironically, potentially the easiest to add to your home is a smart lock, but many people find the idea of dismantling their front door lock a little intimidating. That's the reason we decided to put this guide together.

In this video, we cover the installation of the Kwikset SmartCode 914 Deadbolt with Z-Wave functionality. To put its Smart Home features to the test, we connect it with the Ring Alarm, which includes a Z-Wave hub and can now control Z-Wave-compatible locks.

To provide the best overview of how to install and use the SmartCode 914, we flimed ourselves actually installing it from start to finish in an actual home! We even go through the steps of pairing it with the Ring Alarm system to allow remote access to the lock status, the ability lock and unlock remotely, as well as voice-enabled unlocking.
