The Best keyboard and mouse buyer's guide

As much as personal PCs have changed since their release over four decades ago, two things have remained fundamentally the same: the keyboard and mouse. And we have a feeling they'll be with us for decades to come. With that said, we definitely don't recommend you saddle your new PC with the same old peripherals you've been using since the turn of the century! Stepping up to a modern keyboard and mouse can make your computing experience come alive again, which shouldn't be too surprising if you consider that they are the two main touchpoints that connect you to your computer.

For Fall 2020, we've organized this guide into three sections. First, you have our picks for home and small office products. Second, we list the very best Home Theater keyboard/trackpad combo. Finally, we have a wide range of gaming-specific products for mainstream and extreme gaming. Keep in mind that just because a product has "gaming" in the name doesn't mean it's the real deal. We've picked out models that know will actually improve your gaming experience!

Note that we provide direct links to all the gear we recommend in the US, Canada, the UK, and Germany. If you find a product you like in this guide, please use our links to purchase it, which helps support continued development of this site!

Peripherals - Fall 2020

Home/Small Office

  • The Basic Wireless Keyboard/Mouse Combo:

    Logitech Wireless Combo MK270

Set your home office PC up right with this great combo set from Logitech, which includes a full-size wireless keyboard with number pad plus a wireless mouse.

    The Guru's Tip:

We really don't understand how Logitech can sell this for so little!

  • The Professional Office Keyboard:

    Logitech K800 Wireless Illuminated Keyboard

The sleek, full-featured keyboard is our top pick for office productivity use. It offers backlighting to make typing in the dimly-lit conditions easier, and being wireless, you can easily move it out of the way when you need more desk space.

    The Guru's Tip:

This awesome keyboard is even rechargeable - just plug it in with micro-USB to give its internal lithium battery a boost!

  • The Ultimate Business Mouse:

    Logitech MX Master 3 Wireless

If you want only the best, step up to Logitech's latest MX mouse, the Master 3. It can work on any surface, including glass, while running for 70 days before needing a charge. This mouse has dual wireless modes, meaning you can use either Bluetooth (if your PC has it), or the included nano USB receiver. And in a feat of true genius, Logitech has pioneered a new electromagnetic scroll wheel, which increases precision and reduces noise. And if that's not enough, you even get a thumb scroll wheel for some serious productivity work!

    The Guru's Tip:

This mouse uses USB Type-C to charge, and will pick up 3 hours of charge in just 1 minute!

Home Theater

  • The Home Theater Keyboard/Trackpad Combo:

    Logitech K830 Illuminated Wireless Keyboard

Perhaps the best HTPC keyboard ever released, the K830 now sells for a very attractive price. With its premium styling, integrated trackpad, and solid wireless connection, it doesn't get any better for HTPC use!

    The Guru's Tip:

The subtle backlighting on this model makes it perfect for use in dark rooms!

  • The Pro Gaming Mouse:

    Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed Wireless

Razer has leapfrogged the competition with the Basilisk X by bringing its amazing HyperSpeed wireless technology down to a price that competes with wired mice, while still giving the Basilisk X plenty of ergonomic and functional upgrades over traditional lower-cost gamingmice.

    The Guru's Tip:

It really doesn't make sense to buy a wired mouse in this price range anymore!

  • The Ultimate Wireless Gaming Mouse:

    Razer Basilisk Ultimate HyperSpeed Wireless

Take everything you have in the Basilisk X and push it to 11... then you the Basilisk Ultimate! Incredible precision, ultralight weight, great battery life, a perfect grip. It's everything in the palm of your hand!

    The Guru's Tip:

This mouse comes with a convenient charging stand so you never have to scramble for batteries or a cord!

  • The Ultimate Mouse Mat:

CORSAIR MM350 Extended XL Mouse Mat

The new MM350 is the mouse mat to get if you're ready to move beyond traditional mousepads. Measuring 36.6” x 15.7”, and a full 5mm thick, it provides space for your mouse, keyboard, and maybe a few other accessories as well, while protecting your desk surface in style!

    The Guru's Tip:

Once you try a mouse mat, you probably won't go back to a mouse pad. It adds a premium touch to your entire desktop!

  • The Budget Gaming Keyboard:

    Corsair K55 RGB

Get a quality gaming keyboard at a low price with Corsair's K55, which offers fast response, a comfortable wrist rest, and RGB illumination.

    The Guru's Tip:

You can control the RGB lighting on this keyboard using the full-featured iCUE software from Corsair.

  • The Ultimate Gaming Keyboard:

    Razer BlackWidow Elite Linear

For the ultimate in responsiveness, step up to a true mechanical keyboard from Razer. Using its proprietary "yellow" linear switches, this model will provide instant response with a minimum of noise, and the extensive RGB lighting can be controlled via the Synapse software suite.

    The Guru's Tip:

Pair this with one of the Razer mice above for the ultimate one-two punch!

  • The Ultimate Wireless Keyboard:

Logitech G915 Wireless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (Clicky)

Our favorite keyboard every, bar none, is the G915. Offering lightning-fast mechanical response, ultra-sleek low-slung styling, full RGB effects, and of course, a wireless connection powered by Logitech's unmatched Lightspeed system, it's the best. That's all there is to say.
