HOME OFFICE / THEATER MINI-ITX PC SPEC ALTERNATIVES
« on: May 22, 2018, 10:17:21 AM »
THE $500 HOME OFFICE / THEATER MINI-ITX PC - JUNE 2018 webpage lists:

- Patriot 2x4GB Viper Elite DDR4-2400 for memory
- Western Digital Blue 3D 250GB M.2 for internal storage

Question 1: Can Patriot Memory Viper Elite Series 16 GB DDR4 2800 MHz be used instead?
Question 2: Can WD Blue 3D NAND SATA SSD Internal Storage M.2, 500GB be used instead?

Thanks for advice.

Welcome to the Forum, Dan!

You can use those parts, but they have drawbacks. The DDR4-2800 will potentially run slower than what is spec'd in the guide because the system is capped at DDR4-2400, and the 2800 RAM may have weaker timings at that speed. Only use it if it's cheaper.

The 500GB SSD absolutely works, but it adds a lot of cost to a low cost system. Only get it if you know you need the capacity.

Ari
Thanks for your concise and prompt reply.
If I do go ahead with this mini PC I plan to follow your advice re memory stick but will likely opt for the 500MB SSD (as I need storage capacity).  Still trying to find the H370N-WIFI motherboard in the UK - it doesn't seem to be available here yet.
