X299 and 2066 socket help?
« on: September 14, 2017, 04:08:00 AM »
Hello everyone , i bought most parts of the 3000$ pc build which goes as follows: https://techbuyersguru.com/3000-elite-gaming-pc-build

but i run into a problem. The cooler wont fit cause it doesn't support the 2066 socket . I actually gave all the parts to professionals to build it and they told me it doesnt fit,are they just doing sth wrong or .... is the build wrong?

Sounds like your builder hasn't kept up with the latest product releases. Intel's socket 2066 uses the exact same bolt pattern as previous 2011-based motherboards. In other words, there is no such thing as a "2066-only" cooler.

More info and confirmation from a Corsair employee in this Corsair forum post.

labrosf - the number of pins in the socket and the socket bolt pattern are completely separate. So, if you'd purchased a Core i7-6800K and asked them to install it in an X299 motherboard, that wouldn't work, as only Core i7-7800X and up will work. But the bolt patterns has remained the same over many generations, dating back to 2011 introduced in November 2011. Any cooler made for socket 2011 or the later socket 2011-v3 will work for socket 2066, and because of that, most cooler manufacturers have not bothered updating their packaging for instructions for 2066.

Yeah i got the 7800X  , they managed to finally put it together , he said there was a bracket or sth he found later idk, he was like" you need to find a cpu cooler that supports the 2066 socket" and then i told him to find one for me and then call me back and that was yesterday,he hasnt called yet xD . I just called and found out he put it together.
