An important note from TBG to our loyal readers:

The main Tech Buyer's Guru website (which collects no user information) was hacked and taken over briefly during the Memorial Day weekend. We have since restored functionality, but do keep in mind that it costs a lot to run a website in this day and age, so please use our affiliate links whenever you shop at Amazon! That's the only thing that will keep this site running!

Hot Deals / TBG's For Sale Thread
« on: April 23, 2018, 10:55:37 AM »
Here at The Tech Buyer's Guru, we get a lot of great gear coming through for review, and honestly, it's sort of piling up at this point. We can only use so many keyboards, mice, headsets, CPUs, motherboards, hard drives, smart home devices, etc.!

So, I'm starting this thread to give TBG's loyal readers a chance to get some great gear at great prices. We're going to sell this stuff for way under market value, but it's only going to go to registered TBG forum readers. No ebay going on here!

So, to start off, here's our 2017 AMD Ryzen platform: the Ryzen 7 1700 eight-core CPU and Gigabyte AB350-Gaming 3 Motherboard:

The processor is selling for $260 right now, and the motherboard is $100.

Here are the TBG Forum Reader prices:
(1) AMD Ryzen 7 1700: $150 shipped (continental US) without a cooler, or $175 with either the Arctic Freezer 33 eSports tower cooler or Noctua NH-L9a AM4 low profile cooler. I don't have a photo of the Noctua cooler installed, but here's the sweet-looking Freezer 33 on this very test system:

(2) Gigabyte AB350-Gaming 3 Motherboard: $50 shipped (continental US)

(3) Combo with CPU, motherboard, and your choice of cooler: $200 shipped (continental US)

Any interest, folks? We've got plenty more gear hanging around, so if this is something TBG Forum readers find interesting, I'll post some more gear.

Hot Deals / Black Friday 2017
« on: November 16, 2017, 01:23:34 PM »
Hey all,

This year, we're not going to call out a lot of specific Black Friday deals, as the best ones sell out instantly anyway, but we'll compile the adscans that we come across so you can plan ahead for your BF shopping.

First up is Newegg, which has by far the most comprehensive deals on PC components for Black Friday.

The most interesting things we see are deals on the MX300 1TB SSD from Crucial for under $240 (currently $290), Ryzen CPUs (including the 1800X at $320), and a bunch of nice deals on Corsair and CoolerMaster cases, plus Corsair and Logitech peripherals.

More to follow, if we find any worth posting!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the broader tech community, TBG will be giving out a boat-load of great gear in this year’s Holiday Prize Drawing. Multiple companies have provided samples of their new products as giveaways, one TBG forum member will be donating (and shipping) a brand-new ITX case, and another forum member has offered to cover shipping costs for the rest of the prizes. We’re so excited about this “giving spirit” that we’re throwing in a big prize of our own, which we bought at retail simply for testing.

So without further ado, here are the prizes:

1. Wireless Gaming Mouse: Logitech G403 Prodigy (thank you to Logitech for providing this sample)
2. HTPC Case: SilverStone GD09 Home Theater PC ATX (from TBG’s collection)
3. ITX Case: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv PH-ES215P_BK (thank you to a generous forum member for providing this sample)
4. 140mm-class CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-C14S (thank you to Noctua for providing this sample)
5. 120mm-class CPU Cooler (not pictured): Reeven Hans (thank you to Reeven for providing this sample)
6. Low-Profile CPU Cooler: Reeven Brontes or Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 (for AMD Ryzen) (thank you to Reeven and Noctua for providing these samples)
7. M.2 to PCIe Adapter Card: SilverStone ECM22 Dual M.2 to PCIe X4/SATA 6G plus TP01-M2 Thermal Pad (thank you to SilverStone for providing these samples)

8. Case Cooling Package: Two Reeven Kiran 120mm RGB Fans plus Reeven “Four Eyes Touch” 5.25” Drive Bay Fan Controller (thank you to Reeven for providing these samples). Reeven put this package together just for this giveaway - these Kiran fans are seriously brand-new, just-released swag! Note that the RGB effects are controlled via a selector on the fans themselves, not the touch controller, which is for speed control only.

And here are the rules:

1. To enter, simply post a message in this forum thread, listing your top three prize choices. Choose wisely, as the Grand Prize Winner will get all three of their prize picks, the First Place Winner will get two of the remaining prizes, and Second Place Winner will receive one prize.
2. The prize drawing will run from November 14th to December 5th, with three winners being chosen via random number generator and contacted on Dec. 6th.
3. Open only to residents of the 48 contiguous United States. While we love having readers all over the world, shipping prizes across borders gets very expensive, very fast!

We want to reiterate that without the generous support of various manufacturers, as well as two amazing forum members, this prize drawing would not have been possible!
