As much as personal PCs have changed since their release over four decades ago, two things have remained the same: the keyboard and mouse. And we have a feeling they'll be with us for decades to come. With that said, we definitely don't recommend you saddle your new PC with the same old peripherals you've been using since the turn of the century! Stepping up to a modern keyboard and mouse can make your computing experience come alive again, which shouldn't be too surprising if you consider that they are the two main touchpoints that connect you to your computer.

For Spring 2019, many of our favorite peripherals make a return appearance, but there's also a whole lot of "new" on this list, thanks in part to some major new 2019 releases from Corsair, which is going after its archrival Logitech with a vengeance. Perhaps its most innovative new model is the K83 media keyboard shown here, which integrates both a touchpad and a joystick, allowing it to be used with both home theater PC and Smart TVs, making the navigation of streaming video a whole lot simpler. We're also big fans of Corsair's new MM350 mouse mat, which we think is a great addition to any desk.

With that said, Logitech isn't giving up its #1 position in the peripherals market anytime soon, and our very favorite mice come from the brand, including the awesome G703 wireless PowerPlay mouse, which can be charged wirelessly while in use, meaning you never have to stop the action to recharge.

We've organized this guide into three sections. First, you have our picks for home and small office products. Second, we list our picks for the best Home Theater keyboard/mouse combos. Finally, we have a wide range of gaming-specific products at every pricepoint. Keep in mind that just because a product has "gaming" in the name doesn't mean it's the real deal. We've picked out a wide range of models that we've sampled and know will actually improve your gaming experience!

Note that we use Amazon's pricing widgets to bring you the latest prices in the U.S., while also providing direct links to all the gear we recommend in Canada, the UK, and Germany as well. Peripherals - Spring 2019

Home/Small Office

    The Perfect Travel Mouse:

    Cherry MW 3000 Wireless Mouse

If you're looking for a full-featured mouse that just happens to be wireless (and compact!), then check out the MW 3000 from Cherry, the famed German manufacturer of Cherry MX keyboard switches. Believe it or not, Cherry makes a whole line of high-quality peripherals, and the MW 3000 offers lots of features for the price. These include a miniature wireless receiver that tucks right into the mouse when not in use, a comfortable ergonomic shape with rubber grips, and forward/back thumb buttons.

    The Guru's Tip:

This mouse even has a button to switch between 1,000dpi and 1,750dpi presets, which is unheard of in travel mice, let alone any mouse in this price range.

    The Deluxe Wireless Mouse:

    Logitech G602 Wireless Gaming Mouse

Yes, it says"gaming" right there in the product name, but serious gamers will want one of the models we recommend later in this guide. So whom do we think this mouse is actually good for? Just about everyone else! In its high-precision mode, it will go 250 hours before needing a change of batteries. And in standard-sensitivity mode, it can go months before needing a charge. It also glides very smoothly and has a comfortable shape for long hours of use. To learn more about this amazing mouse, read our in-depth review!

    The Guru's Tip:

We really wish we could recommend Logitech's follow-up to the G602, called the G603 Lightspeed, which we reviewed here. The battery life is amazing, but Logitech really missed a great opportunity by giving the G603 a slick exterior surface, which we just don't like after extended testing. The G602 is a lot cheaper, still has great battery life, and feels better in the hand.

    The Ultimate Business Mouse:

    Logitech MX Master 2S Wireless

If you want only the best, step up to Logitech's latest MX Master, the 2S. It can work on any surface, including glass, while running for 70 days before needing a charge. This mouse has dual wireless modes, meaning you can use either Bluetooth (if your PC has it), or the included nano USB receiver. And in a feat of true genius, Logitech has pioneered a new cross-computer mode, which allows you to control up to three PC or Mac computers using a single mouse - even cutting and pasting data between them. Whoa!

    The Guru's Tip:

The MX Master 2S is being marketed under Logitech's "Logi" sub-brand, which was created to appeal to a broader consumer audience. Don't worry, though, it's still packing all the cutting-edge "tech" that the Logitech name has always stood for!

    The Basic Wired Keyboard:

    Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600

If you just need a great keyboard for home office use, consider this budget-priced model from Microsoft. It features a low-profile design, dedicated volume and calculator keys, and a number pad.

    The Guru's Tip:

We truly believe that in the budget price range, it's much better to go with a wired keyboard, because you know you'll never get wireless interference when using it. Truly usable wireless office keyboards cost nearly at least 3x as much as this model, and offer little extra value when placed on a typical desk.

    The Ultimate Business Keyboard:

Corsair K70 MK.2 MX Silent RGB

While there are plenty of ultra-expensive "business" keyboards, if you want the very best keyboard for office use without paying an exorbitant price, go for Corsair's K70 MK.2 MX Silent. Yes, it is based on the world's top-selling "gaming" keyboard, but as one of the very few keyboards on the market with Cherry's MX Silent switches, it offers the dual benefits of mechanical feel and precision and a typing experience quieter than a standard rubber membrane keyboard.

    The Guru's Tip:

To learn more about Cherry's MX Silent switches, read our full review of the Cherry MX Silent Board.

Home Theater

    The Home Theater Keyboard/Trackpad Combo:

    Microsoft Wireless All-In-One Media Keyboard

If you're looking for the ideal home theater PC keyboard at an amazing price, you just found it. And it comes from none other than Microsoft, which has a very long history in PC peripheral design. With its integrated trackpad, the Media Keyboard allows you to interact with your PC from any seat in the room - no desk required!

    The Guru's Tip:

This keyboard uses a USB receiver for a reliable wireless conneciton.

    The Deluxe Home Theater Keyboard:

    Corsair K83 Wireless Keyboard

If you're looking for an awesome home theater experience, look no further than the amazing new K83 from Corsair. Clad in aluminum, dressed up with cool white backlighting, and featuring not one, not two, but three control schemes, it's the best media-centered keyboard on the planet. It has both 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth connectivity built in, and in addition to its keys, it offers both a trackpad and a joystick with underside button for use with Smart TVs. Yes, indeed, this is more than a PC keyboard - it will make using your TV or media steamer infinitely better!

    The Guru's Tip:

We're not sure if Corsair is intentionally trolling Logitech, but the K83 is clearly aimed at (and beats) Logitech's venerable but outdated K830 HTPC keyboard.

    The Ultimate HTPC Lapboard:

Corsair K63 Wireless Mechanical Gaming Lapboard

Do you want to see something truly innovative? Then check out this one of a kind lapboard designed for gaming on your HTPC setup. It's one of only two name-brand wireless mechanical keyboards on the market (the other is Logitech's G613), and it's the only wireless mechanical lapboard! Lapboard's have an integrated mousepad allowing you to game with a mouse while sitting on the couch. We've tried other lapboards, and we hate to say it, but they are all just a waste of time. Their huge cables make them non-starters in our opinion now that Corsair has released the wireless K63.

    The Guru's Tip:

Note that all K63 boards use Cherry MX Red mechanical switches, but the setup is available with standard dark blue lighting, or the ice blue of this special edition.

    The Mid-Range Gaming Mouse:

Corsair Harpoon Pro RGB Gaming Mouse

There are a lot of so-called gaming mice out there, including a number in the $10-$15 range. Folks, avoid those, and step up to a true gaming mouse at a budget-friendly price, the Harpoon from Corsair, manufacturer of some of the very finest gaming gear on the market. Incorporating high-end features like RGB lighting, an ergonomic grip, on-the-fly DPI adjustment, and a high-quality 6000dpi optical sensor, this gaming mouse is the real deal.

    The Guru's Tip:

Don't forget, a mouse is only as good as the mousepad you use it on, so don't forget to scroll down for our top mousepad picks!

    The Pro Gaming Mouse:

    Logitech G403 Prodigy Gaming Mouse

Logitech has consistently offered some of the best gaming mice since the gaming mouse market first took off in the early 2000s, and its G403 offers an unbeatable combination of performance and comfort, thanks to its 12,000dpi sensor and classic shape. And while all of Logitech's competitors are trying to push wired gaming mice out the door near the $70 pricepoint, the G403 comes in at far less, while offering at least as much or more!

    The Guru's Tip:

Want the G403's shape in a wireless mouse? Then check out the G703 below!

    The Ultimate Wireless Gaming Mouse:

    Logitech G703 Lightspeed

Just like with its predecessor the G403, the G703 offers an incredibly-responsive wireless connection, an ultra-sensitive optical sensor, and a comfortable, attractive shell. See our full review here!

    The Guru's Tip:

The most revolutionary upgrade Logitech brought to the G703 is PowerPlay compatibility. Using the optional PowerPlay charging mat, your mouse will charge while you use it, meaning there's no plugging it in... ever!

    The Gaming Mouse Pad:

Corsair MM400 High Speed Gaming Mouse Pad

A mouse is nothing without a great mouse pad, so please do yourself a favor and pick up the MM400 hard gaming pad. It offers a much lower-friction surface than cloth mouse pads, while still providing excellent levels of control. At nearly 14" by 11", it also offers a lot of surface area for the money!

    The Guru's Tip:

Want a totally different take on the mousing experience? Then consider the extra-large MM350 mouse mat below!

    The Ultimate Mouse Pad:

CORSAIR MM350 Extended XL Mouse Mat

The new MM350 is the mouse mat to get if you're ready to move beyond traditional mousepads. Measuring 36.6” x 15.7”, and a full 5mm thick, it provides space for your mouse, keyboard, and maybe a few other accessories as well, while protecting your desk surface in style!

    The Guru's Tip:

Once you try a mouse mat, you probably won't go back to a mouse pad. It adds a premium touch to your entire desktop!

    The Budget Gaming Keyboard:

    Logitech G213 Gaming Keyboard

If you're looking to get your gaming on with a high-quality keyboard at a great price, looking no further than Logitech's G213. The budget choice in Logitech's gaming lineup, this model offers ultra-quick, spill-resistant keys, as well as five RGB backlighting zones for customization. And its integrated wrist rest gives it a higher level of comfort than the similarly-priced competition.

    The Guru's Tip:

Scroll up and down this page and you'll find a lot of Corsair keyboards on the list. That's because Corsair simply "gets it" when it comes to keyboards, producing good-looking, well-crafted, highly-functional keyboards at great prices.

    The Ultimate Gaming Keyboard:

Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 Rapidfire Low Profile

With its newest K70 model, Corsair has taken gaming keyboards, and indeed mechanical keyboards generally, to a whole new level. Using Cherry's first new ground-up switch design since the 1980s, this low-profile model is completely different than everything that's come before it. With a 1mm actuation distance, nearly-silent operation, unmatched RGB effects, and Corsair's proven customer service, there is no other gaming keyboard to consider. The new K70 is the one!

    The Guru's Tip:

    The Wireless PC Gamepad:

Microsoft Xbox Controller + Wireless Adapter for Windows

If you plan to play driving, flying, or third-person adventure games on your desktop PC, or practically any game at all on a home theater PC, you owe it to yourself to pick up the Xbox One Wireless Controller for Windows. Offering built-in compatibility with just about every game that's come out since the dawn of the Xbox 360 in 2005, you're virtually guaranteed a great gaming experience. It even offers Bluetooth for use with BT-capable PCs.

    The Guru's Tip:

The lastest version of this controller includes a wireless adapter that's 66% smaller that the original, and has wireless stereo sound support, plus the ability to connect up to eight controllers at once.
